Massive Weight Loss
Loose, sagging skin is a common problem among men and women who have achieved massive weight loss on their own or through bariatric surgery. While reaching weight goals is a wonderful accomplishment, many patients don’t feel comfortable in their own skin afterward. At Image Surgical Arts of Nashville, we use the latest surgical techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to help you remove unwanted skin and tissue.
Massive Weight Loss Can Include:
How Does It Work?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Harris will talk to you about your short and long-term goals before creating a unique treatment plan for your individual body type. On the day of your surgery, you’ll arrive at our state of the art surgical center and be put under general anesthesia by a skilled anesthesia provider. Dr. Harris will mark predetermined problem areas for surgery. Over the course of several hours, he’ll meticulously work to shape and tone your body by removing excess skin, remaining fat, and tightening underlying muscles when needed.
Most incisions are very well-hidden. However, when skin is removed in certain areas, such as behind the arms, some scarring is inevitable. Dr. Harris has invested heavily in the latest laser technology and can recommend specific treatments aimed at improving scars.
When Can I Expect to See Results?*
Results can be seen immediately following your procedure. Droopy skin and excess localized fat pockets will be gone revealing your new contour. Continued improvement will occur as swelling and fluid retention subside. Depending on your treatments, this may take anywhere up to several months. Final results from a full body lift can take upwards of 6-months as your body continues to heal.
Does It Hurt?*
A good rule of thumb is to assume your surgery will be as painful as your most extensive procedure. Massive weight loss is typically done under general anesthesia to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. Most patients experience the majority of pain several days post-surgery and report a substantial decline after about 1-week. You may continue to feel uncomfortable for a few weeks after your procedure.
Am I a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for massive weight loss surgery if you are unhappy with the contour of your body due to excess skin after significant weight loss. Men and women who have been weight stable for at least 6-months, and are non-smokers in otherwise good general health tend to have the best outcome from massive weight loss procedures.
