What is your favorite peel that you offer?
I love anything that has lactic acid in it. Our ZO brightening facial includes a stimulator peel that has citric, glycolic, and lactic acid. There is no downtime. This peel exfoliates the skin as well as attacks hyperpigmentation. It’s a good overall brightening peel.
What are the different types of chemical peels?
Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that’s essentially sour milk used to produce smooth skin and balance your skin’s PH level. … If you have slightly sensitive and dry skin, start out with a lactic acid peel. It has tons of skin benefits: the power to clear out toxins, dead cells, debris, and boost collagen production.
Glycolic acid peel is the most common alpha-hydroxy acid peel, also known as fruit peel. Glycolic acid peels used for various indications, such as acne, acne scars, melasma, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, photoaging, and seborrhea.
Salicylic acid peels are particularly helpful for treating acne and blackheads. Salicylic acid is a strong comedolytic, which means it helps unclog pores. It also helps decreases the amount of oil on the skin. Regular salicylic acid peels can help improve both.
Citric acid peels Topical acidic treatments can brighten skin, shrink pores, treat mild acne, and correct dark spots and fine lines.
How Much Downtime Can I Expect?
Everyone’s skin is different. Our “lunchtime” peels are pretty superficial and require no downtime, however, some patients may experience light sloughing (flaking) of the epidermis. The 3-step peel requires about 7 days to fully recover. The skin will shed in sheets. We recommend that the patient only apply hydrating cream during this process and we strongly encourage that the patients DO NOT peel the hanging skin, doing so can cause scarring and/or skin discoloration. You may use small cuticle scissors to trim the dead hanging skin.
Any advice for what to do to help minimize recovery time?
DO NOT pick at the skin, be compliant, and only use what was recommended by your service provider.
Is there a best time of year to get a peel?
Peels are good anytime of the year as long as you are compliant, however, if you plan on being in the sun we strongly encourage that you wear a hat and reapply spf throughout the day. If you are wanting a 3-step peel I always recommend doing it during cooler months.
