“It’s so hard to do something for yourself!”

That’s such a mom thing to say, isn’t it? At Image Surgical Arts, we hear that comment often from women who are wondering if a mommy makeover is right for them. Is it too much? What about the downtime and let’s not forget the cost?

It’s normal to ask these questions, just as our patient Ashley did before her mommy makeover. And of course, there are the ultimate questions about results. What will I look like? Will I have scars? Here’s Ashley’s story, one she is very willing to share to help other women learn what it’s really like to get a mommy makeover.

Tummy Tuck Was All She Wanted

Ashley made an appointment with Dr. Brady Harris to discuss her interest in getting a tummy tuck. She had given birth to three girls over several years, and breastfed all three of them. Her youngest was at the time 7 years old.

“I had stretch marks, the whole works,” she says, describing the physical aftermath of those pregnancies. “I hadn’t worn a bikini since I was in my 20s, and I’m not even 40 yet.”

She wanted her body back. She was thinking about a tummy tuck, to restore her abdominal appearance, but during her meeting with Dr. Harris, he suggested a mommy makeover to achieve even greater results. A mommy makeover is a combination of potential procedures designed to rejuvenate a woman’s body post-pregnancy, so patients can zero in on whatever areas they want to improve. Ashley chose to get a tummy tuck with 360 degree core liposuction and a breast augmentation with a lift.

"It was definitely worth it!”

Ashley had her surgery in 2018, and she says her scars have already faded quite a bit. The largest scar, from the tummy tuck, runs from hip to hip, and the scars from her breast lift run from under each breast up to the areola. Liposuction requires only very small incisions, so the scars become almost unnoticeable. None of them are visible when she’s wearing a bikini – yep, she’s back into that swimwear from her 20s – so no one sees the scars except her husband.

As more time passes, Ashley’s scars will likely continue to fade. Meantime, she is so pleased with her results she has recommended mommy makeovers to her close friends who know she had surgery. “They saw how it boosted my confidence,” she reports, adding that several of them have since been to visit Dr. Harris to discuss what a mommy makeover might do for them.

Ashley admits that deciding to have the surgery was a difficult decision. It was hard to consider doing something just for herself. She knew she would be looking at a couple weeks’ downtime, during which she would have to ask others to help – tough for moms who are used to providing help, not looking for it. And the cost was a consideration, too. In the end, though she knows she made the right decision. “It was difficult, but worth it.”
