Does A Tummy Tuck Leave Scars?

Are you ready for a firmer, flatter tummy? Whether you’d like to say goodbye to sagging skin or an unwanted belly bulge, you’re not alone. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is the gold standard procedure for men and women that want to see dramatic, game-changing results.

Dr. Harris is a triple board-certified surgeon. He has performed thousands of tummy tuck procedures with exceptional outcomes that meet his patient’s aesthetic goals. That being said, post-surgical scarring from the procedure is inevitable. To effectively achieve an optimal outcome, there will be a scar following your procedure. Today, we’ll take a closer look at what you can expect when it comes to scars after your abdominoplasty.

Where Are Incisions Made?

Incisions from abdominoplasty procedures are typically placed in well-hidden locations. In most cases, your scar can be easily covered by underwear or swimsuits. Dr. Harris uses his advanced surgical skills to open and close incisions in a way that minimizes the long-term appearance of scars.

There are two types of tummy tucks with varying degrees of scarring. For women that have had cesarean sections in the past, Dr. Harris may incorporate incisions into pre-existing scars.

  • Full Tummy Tuck: An incision is made within the natural crease of the bikini line from hip to hip.
  • Mini Tummy Tuck: A slightly smaller incision is made along the lower part of the belly. Scars are typically 4-8 inches in length.

These specially-placed incisions allow Dr. Harris to thin unwanted fat pads, tighten underlying muscles, and remove excess skin. The procedure also gives Dr. Harris the chance to address stretch marks that occur below the belly button.
