5 Tips for Recovering from Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures among women worldwide. For many, however, scheduling the procedure into their busy lifestyle can be a concern. With a skilled surgeon at your side and a little careful planning, you’ll be to get back to your regular routine before you know it.

At Image Surgical Arts, Dr. Brady Harris uses his advanced surgical techniques as a triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon to ensure an optimal outcome with minimal risk of complications. While no two surgeries are exactly the same, there are several things you can do to facilitate a quick and easy recovery. Let’s take a look.

#1: Plan Ahead

One of the best things you can do is to prepare your home for a safe and comfortable recovery. Stock your recovery area with everything you’ll need for rest and relaxation the first several days following surgery. We recommend keeping pillows, remote controls, water, cell phones, prescription medications, entertainment, post-operative supplies (gauze, etc.) and other essentials within arms reach.

#2: Ask for Help

You will be required to have someone drive you home from your surgery and stay with you for 24-48 hours as you recover from the effects of general anesthesia. Even the most mundane tasks can seem like a major chore immediately after surgery. Having someone at your side to help can go a long way towards a speedy recovery.

#3: Opt for Healthier Habits

Ideally, you’ll start adding healthier lifestyle choices into your daily routine in the weeks prior to your breast augmentation. However, it’s a good idea to maintain these healthy habits throughout your recovery. This may include introducing certain high-protein foods into your diet, drinking lots of water, and getting enough exercise. You will also be asked to stop smoking and minimize alcohol consumption which can hinder your recovery. Dr. Harris will provide you with a more detailed list at the time of your consultation.

#4: Take Enough Time

While you may be eager to get back to your normal routine ASAP, you don’t want to push yourself too hard too soon. You can generally start to ease in day-to-day activities around 5-10 days. More strenuous tasks (including heavy lifting, exercise, and lifting your arms above your head) should be avoided for at least two weeks. During this time, it is important to listen to your body and take a rest when you feel tired or worn out.

#5: Follow Post-Op Instructions

When it comes to your recovery, your surgeon knows best. Closely following your pre and post-operative instructions as closely as possible is the best way to prevent complications during your healing period. Dr. Harris provides each of his patients with a detailed recovery plan based on their specific procedure as well as their individual lifestyle.

If you have questions at any point throughout your recovery, a staff member at Image Surgical Arts will happily provide you with the guidance you need.
