A Personalized Approach to Body Lift Surgery

Entrust your cosmetic experience to Dr. Harris and the Image Surgical Arts team of experienced professionals.

Lax skin and fat that is non-responsive to diet and exercise can occur due to significant changes in weight, the natural aging process, or genetics. A body lift addresses these concerns comprehensively — restoring smoother, more comfortable, and more pleasing contours across multiple areas of the body.

This procedure is performed by our triple-board-certified cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Brady Harris, in Image Surgical Arts' state-of-the-art surgical facility in Nashville, TN. A body lift is an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to return home the same day. For patients interested in targeting specific areas, Dr. Harris also offers dedicated arm lift and thigh lift procedures.

What is a Body Lift?

A body lift is a combination of surgical procedures aimed at reshaping and enhancing body contours after significant weight loss or aging. Loose, sagging skin, as well as fat pockets that are non-responsive to exercise, can be addressed with the procedure. Patients who have had a gastric bypass or other weight loss procedure often undergo a body lift to remove unwanted excess skin. Arm lifts and thigh lifts, described above, are often included in a body lift procedure. A body lift can treat:

  • Abdomen
  • Waist
  • Inner/Outer thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Chest
  • Upper Back

How Does a Body Lift Work?

Dr. Brady Harris will perform your body lift in Image Surgical Arts’ state-of-the-art surgical facility in Nashville, TN. The procedure is done as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. Over the course of your procedure, Dr. Harris will work to meticulously sculpt and contour your body using a combination of liposuction and skin excision to improve its natural appearance.

Loose skin is tightened and removed, fat deposits are trimmed, and liposuction is incorporated depending on your individual needs. The smallest incisions possible are used to help ensure the best results with the least amount of downtime. Dr. Harris is skilled at placing scars where they can be hidden whenever possible.

Procedures Often Combined with Body Lift

Arm Lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, addresses loose, sagging skin and stubborn fat pockets on the underside of the upper arm. Women who feel uncomfortable wearing short-sleeved or fitted shirts because of droopy arms may want to consider this procedure. An arm lift can remove excess skin, tighten and smooth the underlying tissue, reduce pockets of fat, and provide a better fit for clothing.

Dr. Harris works meticulously to tighten loose skin, incorporating liposuction to remove localized fat deposits. He has pioneered a technique called the Image Surgical Arts Staple Shape Brachioplasty, which results in a significantly shorter scar — one that does not extend onto the axilla or chest wall. Results are visible immediately and improve over several weeks as swelling subsides, with long-term outcomes maintained through a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.

Thigh Lift

A thigh lift uses a variety of body contouring techniques to correct the visible signs of aging and weight fluctuation on the inner thigh. Gravity, changes in weight, and loss of skin tone over time can contribute to saggy or flabby thighs that are difficult to address through diet and exercise alone. A thigh lift can reshape the inner thigh, tighten loose and sagging skin, remove excess fat, improve clothing fit, and restore overall body confidence.

Dr. Harris surgically tightens and removes excess skin on the inner thighs, incorporating liposuction into every thigh lift procedure he performs. The result is a thinner, more youthful-looking appearance with scars kept to a minimum through his precise surgical technique. Noticeable improvement is visible immediately following surgery, with final results fully developing over the course of several months.

When Can I Expect to See Results?

A body lift provides instant, long-lasting results. You’ll see continued improvement as swelling and fluid retention dissipate over the course of several months. Patients who have had significant weight loss may require multiple procedures for different body areas to achieve their desired results.

Although it is normal for some skin laxity to return over time, most patients do not require maintenance treatments. When they do, these treatments can often be non-surgical using the latest technology available at Image Surgical Arts.

Body Lift Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Body Lift Hurt?

A body lift is performed under general anesthesia, giving you as much comfort as possible during the procedure. Immediately after surgery and for several days following, it is not uncommon to feel sore or tender in the treated areas. Any discomfort should steadily decrease after 5–7 days, though you may feel more easily fatigued for a bit longer. Expect to take 7–10 days off work. Consult Dr. Harris beforehand if you have a more strenuous job.

Am I a Good Candidate?

A good candidate for a body lift is someone with a significant amount of excess skin following major weight loss, gastric bypass surgery, or the natural aging process. Loose, sagging skin across the abdomen, waist, thighs, buttocks, hips, or back that has not responded to diet and exercise may be addressed with this procedure. The ideal candidate is a non-smoker who is in good physical and emotional health and has maintained a stable weight for at least six months. We require all surgical patients to abstain from nicotine for six weeks before and after surgery to promote safety and proper healing. Dr. Harris will complete a full body assessment and create a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your desired outcome.

How is a body lift different from a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck focuses on the abdomen, addressing loose skin and, when needed, the underlying muscles. A body lift covers considerably more ground, reshaping the waist, thighs, buttocks, hips, and back in a single surgical plan.

Do I need to reach my goal weight before having a body lift?

Candidates should be at a stable weight for at least six months before surgery. A body lift is about removing excess skin and refining contours after weight loss, not a step in the weight loss process itself.

How long do body lift results last?

What is removed does not come back. That said, significant weight changes or the natural aging process can affect how results hold over time. Staying close to a stable weight gives you the best chance of maintaining what you achieve.

What type of anesthesia is used?

A body lift is performed under general anesthesia at Image Surgical Arts' accredited surgical facility in Nashville, so you are fully asleep and comfortable throughout the procedure.

What does recovery look like?

Most patients take about 7 to 10 days away from work, though that depends on how extensive the procedure is and what your job requires physically. Dr. Harris will walk you through what to expect and when you can gradually return to normal activity.

Will I have noticeable scars?

Dr. Harris places incisions carefully so that scars fall along natural lines or can be covered by clothing whenever possible. Most continue to soften and fade for up to 18 months after surgery, and the team can recommend products to support that process.

Can breast surgery be added at the same time?

It is possible in some cases. Patients going through post-weight-loss body contouring sometimes want to address the breasts as well. Dr. Harris will discuss whether combining procedures makes sense based on your health, goals, and how much your body can safely handle in one surgery.
