BBL recoveryWouldn’t it be wonderful if you could emerge from your Brazilian Butt Lift surgery fully healed and ready to show off your newly-remodeled booty? Unfortunately, in real life that’s not the case, so you will have to undergo a few weeks of recovery first. Dr. Brady Harris has performed a personally tailored procedure to achieve your desired results, and now it’s up to you to ensure your recovery goes as quickly and comfortably as possible.

Here’s what to expect and what you can do to make the most of your recovery, after a successful Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery.

Immediately Following BBL Surgery

You will spend a little time in our recovery room, attended by our clinical team as you wake up. It shouldn’t take long before you’re ready to go home, but you’ll need a driver – and someone to assist you for the first few days. Rest assured, we will provide complete, written instructions for your home care.

Your top priority? Follow doctor’s orders! If you don’t give your body enough time to rest and heal, you risk complications and may endanger your results. So relax and look forward to seeing your shapely new backside.

Week 1

You will experience some soreness (maybe some initial numbness), bruising and swelling. We’ll send you home with pain medication in case you need it, but many patients find an over-the-counter pain reliever works fine. You will wear compression garments to support your buttocks and the area where you had liposuction.

  • No direct pressure on your buttocks! This will be the hardest part of your recovery. You should either stand up, or lie on your stomach or sides, day and night, except to go to the toilet. (You will have a donut pillow for sitting – Dr. Harris will explain when to start using it and how long you can sit. You can also use pillows to support your thighs.)
  • You can take short walks to support good circulation to your surgical sites and help reduce swelling.
  • Follow wound care instructions for your incision sites.
  • You will have a one week follow up appointment with us at the office.
  • Note that your buttocks will appear much larger at first than when you’re fully healed. This is because about 25-50% of the transferred fat will not survive.

Weeks 2-3

  • Tenderness, bruising and swelling should be much less noticeable.
  • Continue to follow instructions regarding compression garment(s)
  • Continue to take short walks
  • Begin using your donut pillow for brief sitting, if allowed (you will gradually be able to sit for longer periods, bit you’ll use this pillow for up to 8 weeks)
  • Most patients can resume light daily activities, including return to work depending on what you do (you may have to use a standing desk)

Weeks 4-5

  • You may still have a bit of residual tenderness or swelling
  • Now you can begin to engage in more strenuous activities or exercise, but you should still avoid heavy lifting
  • Continue walking, for longer periods now
  • Continue wearing your compression garment(s), at least at night, as instructed

Week 6

  • You should be discomfort-free by now
  • You should start to see how your new bottom will look – remember that some fat will not survive, so Dr. Harris has accounted for that by transferring more than will be needed to produce your final results
  • Dr. Harris will advise if you can start doing lower body exercises

The Big Reveal

Recovery from Brazilian Butt Lift surgery usually takes 6-8 weeks. However, it can take 6-12 months before your final results are fully revealed, as fat that was transferred to your buttocks gradually settles in. You’ll see trimmer, smoother contouring in your liposuction area as well.

As long as you continue to eat a healthy diet and exercise to maintain a stable weight, your new look will be virtually permanent. That said, over time the natural aging process may well bring changes to your buttocks as well as the rest of your body.
