Microneedling for the Win

Every patient has different skin and improvement goals, and scars can vary considerably in their appearance, size and depth. Even the age of your scars can affect treatment outcomes. Because we offer multiple treatment options, we can create an individually tailored treatment plan to provide the best overall results. The goal is to help stimulate collagen production in order to produce new healthy skin cells that will reduce the size of the scar.

For facial scarring from acne, we always recommend microneedling. That may be SkinPen, Vivace®, Secret, or Morpheus 8 – our specific recommendation will depend on how extensive the scarring is and whether the scars are superficial or deep. We pair microneedling with a retinol-based skin care product, usually tretinoin or glycolic acid. For patients who haven’t used chemical peels in the past, we highly recommend this resurfacing treatment.

For all types of scarring, we often recommend laser treatment, which might be:

Fully ablative CO2 laser treatment
Morpheus 8 is our most-recommended treatment for older scars and more prominent boxcar and ice pick acne scars. This technology uses radio frequency heat as well as microneedling to more thoroughly break up old scar tissue and stimulate production of new, healthy skin cells. This treatment can be utilized on the face as well as areas of the body.

The HydraFacial® Keravive Scalp Treatment removes build up and stimulates circulation in the scalp. This can help with hair regrowth and is particularly helpful for postpartum regrowth. Another option is a scalp treatment, where we utilize your body’s own growth factors to stimulate regrowth. There are also a number of prescription medications on the market, but not everyone is enthused about a drug-based solution. This is why we have added Nutrafol to our collection of hair regrowth solutions.
