A breast augmentation is a surgical cosmetic procedure designed to increase the volume of your breasts and enhance the shape and cleavage. The procedure can correct volume-loss due to changes in weight, aging, or pregnancy. Either saline or silicone-based implants are used to bring a balance or enhance breast size in women who are unhappy with their breast’s aesthetics. Breast augmentations are highly-customizable with a wide variety of variables to suit your individual needs.
A Breast Augmentation Can:
- Increase fullness and projection of your breasts
- Improve balance of breast contours
- Fill out loose or sagging skin of the breasts
- Enhance your self-image and confidence
How Does a Breast Augmentation Work?
A breast augmentation is done as an outpatient procedure at Image Surgical Arts of Nashville’s state-of-the-art surgical facility. An easily-concealable incision is made along the natural folds of your breast, and an implant is inserted below the breast tissue or underlying muscle. Breast augmentation can be done in as little as an hour. A breast lift can be performed at the same time for women who have sagging or droopy breasts and want a more contoured shape and more youthful nipple and areola position.
When Can I Expect to See Results?
Immediately following your procedure, you’ll be able to see fuller, firmer breasts. However, post-surgical swelling can mask the initial results. As swelling subsides the new shape and size of your breasts will become more evident. Final results from your breast augmentation can be seen about 4-months after your surgery as the implants move to their final position.
Does It Hurt?
Breast augmentations are done either under general anesthesia or via IV sedation and local anesthesia to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Although discomfort levels vary on a patient by patient basis, you can expect minor pain for several days after your surgery. Most women report a significant decrease in pain after 1-week. Usually, patients will describe the pain as more of a soreness rather than actual pain. Medication is prescribed for any post-surgical discomfort.
A good candidate for a breast augmentation is any woman who is self-conscious about the size or shape of her breasts and whose nipple and areola position is appropriate. You may be a good candidate for a breast augmentation if you’ve lost fullness due to childbearing or breastfeeding. Because a breast augmentation is a surgical procedure, you will ideally be in good overall health and a non-smoker.
